Internship

Internships

The Intern Programs are the natural progression of the classes offered through theConservatory@LCFShakes (VanguardRep's Summer Shakespeare Festival training program). Each summer, LCFShakes will offer intern positions selected from the conservatory students. The internships offered will be in either acting or production (stage management, theatre production, costumes, lighting, set design, etc).

The internships allow students to apply the techniques taught in the respective classes through a hands-on experience in a professional environment.
Internships within the festival are considered a rare and unique opportunity for students to be directly involved with a professional repertory theater company.

Acting Internships
On completion of certain levels of classes offered at the festival, acting internships will be offered to select students. Selections will be conducted by the students’ teacher, directors of the productions and/or one of the co-artistic directors of the festival. Acting interns will show above average skill in their respective classes and demonstrate a positive attitude toward working collaboratively in a fast-paced professional environment. Those students receiving acting internships must agree, along with their parents, to the workload and time commitment of the festival and will be used in various capacities that may include but may not be limited to:

• Acting on-stage primarily in smaller roles requiring attendance at all called rehearsals, technical rehearsals and performances
• Direct support and assistance to the stage manager and assistant stage manager in responsibilities related to set management during a performance
• Help in turning over and/or striking the set under the direction of the production manager

Production Internships
Students declaring a preference for production internships will be interviewed by the students’ teacher, directors of the productions and/or one of the co-artistic directors of the festival. Production interns will show above average skill in their respective classes and workshops. While working closely with designers, technicians and production staff, interns will have an opportunity to work in various capacities that may include but may not be limited to:

• Attendance at all called production meetings, technical rehearsals and performances
• Direct support and assistance to the stage manager and assistant stage manager in pre-production and during production
• Direct support and assistance to lighting, set and/or costume designers in pre-production and during production
• Run the sound and/or lighting board(s) during actual productions under the direction of the stage manager and/or assistant stage manager
• Act as running crew under the direction of the stage manager and/or assistant stage manager
• Help in turning over and/or striking the set under the direction of the production manager
• Direct support and assistance to the house manager in pre-production and during production
